You can’t talk about favourite yarns found in the East Coast without talking about Briggs and Little yarns. Located in Harvey, New Brunswick, Briggs and Little is Canada’s oldest woolen mill.
They offer a variety of products from lace weight to roving. All are pure wool or wool/nylon blends. They come in a variety of colours, both solid and heather. I have used Briggs and Little yarns for a variety of projects including vests, tunics, skirts and a poncho. It is great for outerwear. It is sheep’s wool though, so it is not as fine as cashmere or merino – then again, it is not nearly as expensive as cashmere either:-)
Their wool is easy to knit with and there is something special about coming across the odd bit of straw. I am also a rug hooker, and the unused wool from my various projects is perfect for use in my hooked rugs.
